Our story

A rural escape, built around a converted stables in Aldergrove

A small, family-run cattery built on paying proper attention to every cat who comes through the gate.

How it started

Crookedstone House & Cattery began, as many of the best small businesses do, with a genuine love of animals and a good building going spare. The property’s original stables, once home to horses rather than house cats, sit in mature gardens on the edge of Aldergrove, Co. Antrim. Primrose saw the potential in the space and, over time, converted it into a proper, purpose-suited cattery: private pens, good ventilation, underfloor heating, and enough quiet space that no cat ever feels crowded by its neighbours.

What hasn’t changed since the early days is who does the day-to-day care. Primrose is still the person who greets you at drop-off, who remembers which cat likes the radio left on, and who deals with anything that comes up personally: not an app, not a rota of rotating staff, but one person who knows the place inside out.

The property

It’s easy to understand why cats settle so well here. The property sits well back from the road, wrapped in lawns, hedgerows and open fields, with mature trees offering shade and shelter across several acres of private grounds. There’s none of the passing traffic noise or crowding you find closer to town, just quiet countryside.

Inside, the old stable block has been properly converted rather than simply adapted: solid, easy-clean surfaces, good natural light, and cattery pens sized generously enough that cats can move, stretch, and perch without feeling boxed in.

Being in Aldergrove also means we’re a genuinely convenient stop for anyone flying from Belfast International Airport, close enough to drop off on your way to the terminal, or collect after a late flight, without adding real time to your journey.

Why people trust us

Most of our bookings come from word of mouth: one family telling another that their cat came home from a stay with us settled and unstressed. That reputation matters more to Primrose than growth for its own sake, which is why Crookedstone House & Cattery has stayed small and personally run rather than expanding into something bigger and less personal.

We take the same care whatever brought you here: a confident young cat in for a week while you’re on holiday, or an elderly cat on daily medication staying with us for a longer spell. If your cat has particular needs, read more on our medication and special care page, or get in touch directly and we’ll talk it through.
