Long-Stay Boarding

Settled, unhurried care for extended holidays, relocations, and any stay of several weeks or more.

What's included

Long-stay boarding covers everything in our standard cat boarding, extended and adapted for cats who will be with us for several weeks, a full season, or occasionally longer. Every long-stay cat keeps the same private pen for the duration of their stay rather than being moved around, which matters more the longer a cat is away from home: a consistent space to return to helps enormously with settling in for the long haul.

We build a proper individual routine for long-stay guests rather than simply repeating a short-stay schedule for longer. That might mean adjusting feeding times as the seasons change, introducing more supervised time outside the pen as a cat grows more confident, or simply changing up bedding and enrichment to keep things interesting over an extended period. Long-stay cats also get more regular one-to-one time with Primrose, since we find this makes a real difference to how settled a cat feels over weeks rather than days.

Who this service is for

Long-stay boarding is most often booked by families relocating abroad or across the UK who need somewhere reliable for their cat while they get settled themselves, by owners taking an extended holiday or a working trip of a month or more, and occasionally by owners going through a house move or renovation that makes it impractical to have a cat at home for a period. Whatever the reason, we treat a long stay as seriously as it deserves: this is, for a while, where your cat lives, not just somewhere they’re passing through.

If your cat is elderly or needs medication during an extended stay, it’s worth reading our medication and special care page as well, since the two services combine easily. Families with more than one cat can also see multi-cat families for shared-pen options over a long stay.

Keeping you updated

For any stay of more than a couple of weeks, we’re happy to check in with you periodically by phone or email, particularly around any change in routine, health, or behaviour. We know that leaving a cat for an extended period, especially during a move abroad, can be one of the harder parts of the whole process. Regular reassurance is part of the service, not an extra.

What to bring

  • Enough of your cat’s usual food to start their stay: we can advise on sourcing more locally if needed for very long stays
  • Proof of up-to-date vaccination: [CONFIRM: exact vaccination requirements, e.g. up-to-date Feline Herpesvirus, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia (F3) vaccination, certificate required at drop-off]
  • Any medication, with clear dosage and timing instructions
  • A secondary emergency contact who can make decisions in your absence
  • Bedding or a toy with a familiar scent, if it will help them settle for longer
